Meet the couple
Simon Cox and Tash Edward-Johnson have been together since early 2014 and were engaged for 18 months. The couple fell in love on the ski slopes at Mt Buller and haven’t looked back, enduring a long distance relationship, starting a new business from scratch, purchasing property, and owner-building a house together. Tash is an Orthotist in a private clinic and hospitals in Melbourne’s east. Simon runs Yarra Linen in the Yarra Valley, a laundry and linen service servicing local wineries and function venues.
Who proposed?
It was a Friday night and I was in a hurry to finish my work week and get to our property. When I arrived home he suggested we have glass of wine to relax, and go for a walk in our chestnut orchard. Unbeknown to me he had placed signs up and in front of one, he got down on one knee and proposed. I happily said yes through all the tears.
How did you choose your ceremony and reception venue?
We were attending a networking event at Projekt 3488, and as we walked in the doors we turned to each other and said, “this is the one! This is our Yarra Valley wedding venue.” At this stage we had looked at more than 15 venues and none had felt right. The gardens took our breath away and the venue was restored in an exquisite way that allowed the building to shine in all its charm.
What was your wedding theme?
Simple! A great venue with close friends and family, and amazing food. We wanted a relaxed but formal evening wedding that would be a lasting memory for everyone. Mark from Project 3488 has an amazing eye for detail. The styling was all there. The people created the vibe.
Is there a story behind your dress and veil?
I fell in love with my dress on my second day of dress shopping. It was hidden behind another gown on the rack. Initially I just saw the lace and was intrigued. It wasn’t your standard wedding gown lace and I fell in love. It fitted me like a glove and was everything I wanted. My favourite detail from the day was my veil. It is so special to me. A friend spent hours sewing it with invisible thread. The result was better than I ever imagined. It gave me the train my dress lacked, and made me feel like a princess.
Tell us about your bespoke wedding bands
We designed and made our wedding bands with Bec from POD Jewellery (Kyneton) from a strand of white gold and silver. Bec guided us to create wedding bands that will last a lifetime. I had diamonds set into my band for extra sparkle.
What makes your marriage?
To us, marriage is a declaration of love built on honesty, faithfulness and respect. It is about going on adventures and getting through the everyday grind together. It’s about being a rock for one another when times get tough and celebrating our achievements no matter how big or small. Together we are stronger.
What’s your best advice for planning the perfect wedding?
Don’t settle, if you find a venue you love and a team of amazing people, your day will go to plan. Don’t sweat the small stuff – at the end of the day it will be amazing as long as those close are gathered with you to celebrate. For me, my bride tribe was everything. They made the whole thing fabulous. Stay true to what you want.
What were the highlights?
Mark and Sandi from Projekt 3488 made sure our day went without a hitch and have also become good friends. Rick Liston, our photographer, captured our day perfectly and the photos will be treasured for a lifetime. Jessie from Locavore Catering gave us a menu and food to die for, ensuring all the food came out looking wonderful. Holly from Anouk Flowers came to the rescue and ensured our alter looked stunning. This team made our day seamless, and helped us both be at ease.
